Smith & Taylor Classics

Founded in 2024, Smith & Taylor Classics combine editors Allison Miriam Smith and Brandon Taylor’s shared love of classic literature. Featuring both celebrated and lesser-known authors from the past, S&T seeks to reintroduce titles that pushed the boundaries of their time, and whose themes continue to resonate today. Each edition features a conversational afterword between two esteemed readers: established writers, critics, satirists, academics, scientists and more.

I was tasked with giving the new imprint its visual identity from the ground up, starting with a logo. With guidance from the editors and inspired by the surnames Smith and Taylor, I explored various hammer and needle designs. This, combined with the wax seal stamp shape of the final logo, gave a nod to traditional artisans from years past.

Illustrated Objects

Every S&T cover displays an illustrated object that symbolizes the novel, set against a bold yet minimal color background.

The different objects and colors allow each book to have its own uniqueness while still working within a cohesive visual identity—turning the series into a collector’s dream.

Author Portraits

The back of each jacket displays an author portrait, which was photographed or painted near the time of the novel’s publication, and is paired with a single quote from the book that captures its spirit.
