Compound Butter Magazine
Compound Butter was a biannual publication, produced in collaboration with Jessie Nicely, that explored food, art and the spaces where they intersected. Published from 2014 to 2024, the magazine showcased personal essays, recipes, photography and comics that celebrated the culinary and art worlds. It garnered attention from outlets like The New York Times, KCRW and The Washington Post while cultivating a loyal fanbase of readers. Each issue was released only in print and with a limited run; once an issue was sold out it was never reprinted.
Layout Design
Throughout CB’s ten-year run I designed hundreds of features and conceptualized themed issues front to back. The magazine often featured pre-existing unpublished projects along with pieces created exclusively for each issue’s theme.

Art Direction
Alongside laying out each issue, I also art-directed illustrators and photographers to produce pieces that complemented each article. This process included sketches, revisions and sometimes brainstorming sessions to help each artist capture the story.
